At seven years old, Charles Oliveira was diagnosed with a heart murmur and rheumatic fever, with doctors warning his family he might never walk again or play sports. Living in a poor Brazilian favela, his family made significant sacrifices for his treatment. His mother's refusal to accept the grim prognosis contributed to his recovery. By age 12, he found jiu-jitsu, which ultimately set him on the path to becoming a UFC champion.
